IMPREZA: THE ROAD CAR & WRC STORY

Brian Long, Forward: Toshihiro Arai
Review: Jason Round

There are quite a few Subie books doing the rounds now, but never have we seen one that so closely examines the story behind the WRC champ. Packing in over 650 pics, this full-colour guide explores the history of the car, a breakdown of the many models floating about and a round-by-round coverage of the WRC challenge.

Looking at the firm’s aviation-based history, the initial part of the book covers most everything you’ve ever wanted to know about your fave manufacturer, including the scooter that saved the company, the 1.8L Alcyone and its journey into the WRC.

What follows then is extensive coverage of literally every model, including stacks of original press releases and photos, along with schematics and interviews from key players in the Impreza’s conception and redevelopment. It’s bloody fascinating stuff, and thus the lack of productivity here in the office on this, the 16th of January.

For example, I was not aware of the specifics of Tommy Kaira’s affiliation with the marque and the 355bhp beast they produced back in the bug-eye era. But that’s just one of literally thousands of facts available here, and if you’re a Subie fan, than it goes without saying that you really need to have this book sitting in your collection.

The guide is now retailing in soft-cover format for $54.95. Contact www.capricornlink.com.au to grab a copy for yourself. It’s ‘Imprezive’ stuff…
