The New South Wales government is reintroducing mobile speed cameras from July 19th as part of a $170 million dollar initiative to reduce death toll on the roads. This will be done in conjunction with engineering works, highway safety reviews, education campaigns and heavy vehicle research. The NSW government has also spent $1.2 million dollars on advertising campaigns warning us about the impending installments of these unmarked cars. The RTA will take over the operation from the NSW Police Force, and will use highly sophisticated digital cameras to catch offenders. Overspeeders will receive only a warning in the first month of operation, and a fine and loss of points for each offense there after.
