Millionaire Aussie rappers (is there such a thing?) and well-to-doers have been chomping at the bit for a slice of Hummer pie ever since it reared its weighty head at the Holden stand at last year’s Sydney Motor Show. Well, they are about to get their wish.
Aussie customers can now order the new Hummer H3 in three models, being H3, H3 Adventure and H3 Luxury, for those who like to live a little larger than most – in more ways than one. The first lucky bastards will take home their purchase in July. We will, however, be waiting to see how they tackle our teeny-weeny Oz roads and car spaces…
So, how much can you expect to pay? Well, it’s not too bad actually, with the H3 retailing in base form for just over $50,000. The luxury adds another $10K onto that price again, though that’s before you deck it out with the truck-load of options available to prospective buyers.
GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Denny Mooney, made the announcement on Hummer’s first Australian motor show stand at the Brisbane International Motor Show.
“Hummer is a truly iconic automotive brand. Australian customers can’t wait to climb behind the wheel and our competitive pricing will really shake up the market,” Mr Mooney said.
“The mid-size H3 is an ideal vehicle to launch the brand into Australia. Comparable in size to other mid-size SUVs, H3 is still true to the brand’s extreme heritage, but is more economical and easier to drive in the city than the original H1 and H2.
“Affectionately known as the ‘baby Hummer’, the H3 is able to achieve the perfect balance between on-road comfort and off-road capability.”
Engine-wise, you’re looking at the odd 3.7L five-cylinder petrol, which delivers 328Nm of torque at 4600rpm and around 180kW of power at 5600. This is all on a platform that weighs in at 2198kg for the manual and 2303kg for the auto.
We here think the Hummer family would make the perfect dub mobile, cruising on some monster rims and decked out with tons and tons of high-end audio. Of course, you could always just supercharge the thing...
