I was just discussing the other day with someone here in the office why the original Streetfighter II had not been released on any home format, and then ‘booya!’, out of nowhere came this release from THQ, Capcom Classics Collection Reloaded for PSP.
I sunk unfathomable amounts of money into Streetfighter when I was lad, so much so that I probably could have bought the machine 10 times over, so this collection of ‘classics’ has special sentimental value for me.
You can sonic boom and spinning bird kick to your heart’s content in Street Fighter II, as well as the Champion and Hyper Fighting editions, or you can just keep trying to look up Chun Li’s skirt. It’s not just all Streetfighter, though, with 19 classics in total from the golden era of arcade-dom, including Gun Smoke, Vulgus, Eco Fighters and Ghouls and Goblins among others.
Challenging your mates is made easy thanks to PSP wireless, and you can select screen format (wide, accurate, horizontal) to suit your playing ability. You can also check out game history, and there are plenty of new and old secret codes scattered throughout.
Load times are excellent, the graphics just as you remember them and the gameplay can still stand tall amongst the latest crop of comers. It’s a fantastic compilation for the coin generation.
