my excel needs help...4g63 conversion? lol
hey i have only recently decided to start doing engine mods and want to know what people think i should be starting with. thus far its completly stock (engine wise). i hope to be getting a 2.25" extracta back exhaust soon (with twin mufflers from each side of the rear end) with a high flow cat etc and want to no where to go next.
are pod filters worth it or is it a waste as its sucking in hot air?
any other suggestions?
by the way its a 1999 x3 DOHC
lol this is on the wish list but $$$ are far in excess of a uni students wage...
what do people think of a 4g63t (vr4 or something i think)from the early evo (I-IV i think) or out of the old galant conversion in the excel?
apparently they slip almost straight into the excel but i need engine mounts and then new brakes, suspension and pretty much everything else upgradesd...
just wanting peoples thoughts
and someone please help me with the pod filter

As with any mod, the key is to do the measurement before spending the money. A pod filter will only help you in that it will be less restrictive than the original filter - so you need to work out how restrictive the original filter is first.
The easiest way to do this is to borrow a boost gauge from a friend and hook it up to your inlet manifold, and see how much vacuum you get at wide open throttle at the high RPM. If you're not getting any vacuum, then you don't have any restriction.
Note that this will measure ALL the restrictions upstream of the manifold, including airflow meter (if your car has one), throttle body, air filter, etc.
Easy test, then you'd know if you were getting performance or just noise!
