I dont know much about the barina (my gf has one but i ignore it lol) Basic upgrades would be:
1) New airfilter Pod or Panel with a cold air intak - better fuel consumption, better performance AND piss weak easy install.
2)Exhaust - Extractors/headers, dunno if you can buy them straight out (not many ppl mod barinas) but you can get them custom made for a price. But a simple new exhaust could be enough if you dnt want to spend the huge $$$ for customs just ask you mechanic what size pipe would be ideal etc and they'll quote you on it.

Those are two relatively cheap and one very simple self install. Try and find a Holden or Barina group on the internet that way you can talk to some ppl who might have done it before. Or you can do what i did with my Diahatsu Cuore, Mod the shit out of the soundsystem and wait till you can afford a more powerful car to mod the shit out of the engine lol. Goodluck man! it isnt going anywhere atm, trying to gain funds for it without a job.. not an easy task funnily enough on 135 a fortnight.. stupid centerlink.. doing my best to get a job but iv got to make like $300 a week to pay for everything.. which is near impossible

I see! Well hope it works out! Yea im in major debt with my new ride, i can barely mod at all since im in about $2700 in debt just for the car and repairs, but im pulling in a sturdy 250 - 400 a week so im pretty happy. (thats two damn jobs though lol and ontop of school i get no sleep lol)

Nice, yea VL's are nice but they attract alot of police attention, i had a copper at my house the other day about a break in on my old car and i asked him what his fave cars to hunt for were (coz i wanted to know if he would hunt for my SSS) and the first car outta his mouth was VL Commodore. lol. But sounds like a good idea!

yea the ol VL's are my fav commodore, i just love the way it looks, will have to try n find one

If your car is the same shape as the Mk2 - Mk3 Cino, I'm assuming you don't have the GTi engine in it... am I right?

The GTi engine can make a lot of power for a 1.3L, so perhaps one thing you could do would be to do an engine swap for the 1.3, with an appropriate exhaust change as well. Upgrading the throttle body to an SR20 and using an aftermarket ECU instead of the factory one (get rid of the airflow meter) gets a fair bit of power increase.
