It depends on what type of king spring you get i went with fulcrom for my EVO coz its adjustable but they had to make them custome for me being the first evo 6 they have done for rally'art but give them a go, there a good brand and great help but there is no problem with king springs, i recon the person that told you that they arn't low doesn't like them, but look around it doesn't hurt.

u can buy coilovers very cheap.. i have g4 coilovers in my pulsar and a mate of mine has g4 coilovers in his evo3 lancer and he has attended track days and hill sprints and the car runs 12 second passes at the drags... u can get them off ebay 4 around $1000, better then any lowered spring as u can adjust the ride hieght at any point and time.... but that dicision is up 2 u.... good luck with it.

i don't think your problem is from the shocks. The noise is most likely coming from the spring rubbing against the shock. There is a small piece of rubber that is on the bottom and the top of the spring, over time this thin piece falls apart. Taking the shock apart and replacing it will get ride of the noise. If the shocks are bad the ride would be too bouncy, if the spring was bad the car would sag and ride to low.
