  MA, WE'RE ON TV!

The drifting scene just continues to get bigger and bigger, and now the 2007 season has been buoyed by the fact that it shall receive more TV coverage than ever before.
"This is an exciting step forward for the sport, the series and in particular for all of the Toyo Drift Australia Series teams and sponsors," Drift Australia Director Wayne Boatwright enthused.
"In our third year, we now have one of the most comprehensive television packages of any form of motorsport in Australia."

Along with SBS’s Speedweek, the Oz Drift Championship will also be screened on Nine’s Speed Machine Sat arvo program and Fox Sports Inside Speed and Thursday night line-up, which is great news. That means each round will now receive over three hours of airtime in total, a fact fans will no doubt be rejoicing about.

And they have reason to as well, because this season is looking bigger than ever. With 32 cars, the Team Peer fellas will again be the people to beat, but we’re particular interested in what the GT Autosound boys in SA have cooked up with a brand-new Nissan R34 Skyline powered by no less than a twin-turbo LS1 V8. Overkill? Who cares!

Also to watch in 2007 will be the newly formed team of Eugene Arendsen and Josh Young, who will team up with backing from Saber and Nankang Tyres.
A former world-championship winning rower, Arendsen was seventh last year on debut in the series, while Young – who finished sixth in the 2005 season and won the Initial Drift NSW Series – is back on home soil after competing in Japan last year.

Also on the move, Christian Pickering will drive a Nissan 180SX for Commercial Truck Sales Racing, Danny Vahoumis slides into a seat with Japanese Motorsport Team and Gatorz Racing has snared Nathan Weissel, who shone in a low-budget debut season last year.
Alumni from the Super Drift feeder class feature heavily in the team and driver shuffle.
Linden Reynolds was the dominant force in 2006 and now joins Wheelworx in the Toyo Drift Australia Series.

Among his rivals from the ’06 season, Cameron Gale, Chris Easton, Adam May and Scott Gibbs are also stepping up.

The quintet will be looking to follow in the footsteps of 2005 Super Drift Champion Fernando Wiehrl, who put in an impressive rookie campaign last year.
Experienced circuit racer Christian D'Agostin is taking to Drifting for the first time, having previously raced V8 Supercars, Sports Cars in Australia and America, and Production Cars.
Continuing his ties with Holden machinery – having won the Commodore Cup title in 2000 and 2001 and more recently finishing second last year – D'Agostin will team up with Robbie Bolger's Holden squad.
D'Agostin will drive a two-wheel-drive Subaru Liberty RS at Barbagallo Raceway, before stepping into Bolger's 800hp Holden Monaro from Round Two onwards, when Bolger debuts his new VE Commodore.
While D'Agostin knows Australian circuits, but not Drifting, D1 NZ star Justin Rood will have a different learning curve.

The New Zealander took out the top-level NZ Series in 2004 and is looking forward to his new challenge on the other side of the Tasman aboard a Nissan 180SX.
Rood's first competition hit-out in Australia will be practice for Round 1 of the Toyo Drift Australia Series at Western Australia's Barbagallo Raceway on Saturday February 24.
The two-day program will feature Toyo Drift Australia Series and Super Drift action, team Drift and burn-out competitions and freestyle expressions sessions.
